'People are intimidated' - why 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the team to beat.

There's little doubt why Arsenal have become countless pundits' preferred choice to claim the Premier League this season.

Look at their results against Newcastle and Crystal Palace compared to those equivalent matches last season.

The Gunners have overcome all of them in the current season, but surrendered 10 points across those games as they fell away in the title race previously.

Defensive Dominance

Arsenal's backline resilience is a primary factor why they are seeming ready to at last realize their title goal.

They rank top for clean sheets (6), shots let in (3), opposition efforts (72), quality opportunities against (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is arguably the finest in the league, with Arsenal keeping a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Mastery

Their threat from set-pieces is highly documented, but rival sides still don't know how to stop the Gunners from these opportunities.

They have registered 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals resulting from these situations.

"Arsenal can excel in various aspects now. The whole team has a fear factor. People are just wary of them and it is wonderful to see."

Title Potential

What is especially remarkable about Arsenal's start to the campaign is they have also played Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United at opposition grounds and Manchester City on home turf - and are still four points clear at the top.

While they maintain victories, their traditional rivals are struggling. This marks the premier instance at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The pressure was on boss Mikel Arteta at the start, having invested around £250m on eight summer signings in search of that elusive first title since 2004.

But the business has so far yielded results in impressive fashion, with his side one of the most prolific attacks in the league and boasting the most resilient defense, despite several injuries.

  • Clean sheets in three consecutive Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without conceding a goal
  • Only a trio of goals in 12 games across various contests

Former players and experts have characterized Arteta's men as a "powerhouse, looking challenging to stop" with the whole club now operating with belief and resolve.
