PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
